I’m flying off to Austin, Texas in a couple of days to be with a group of 32 music industry professionals at what is the world’s biggest coming together of creative talent in independent film, original music and emerging technologies.

To be honest, as a bit of a newcomer even to things like blogs, I’m a little bit apprehensive that I’ll be left behind by the power of the different methods of communication and perhaps I’ll struggle to come to terms with new musical styles.  With a musical taste that by and large revolves around the 60s and 70s sounds, am I ready for what the new decade of the 21st century will bring? Well, I’m sure of one thing, I suppose.  I’ve always enjoyed watching talented people that write their own songs and play their own instruments and in Austin I’ll be able to see hundreds, including many from the North West.

Of course we have great music scenes in both Manchester and Liverpool but other towns are beginning to come through as well, however, in the eyes of the world I guess we’ll mostly be associated with the Beatles.  I’d love to be able to chronicle the Liverpool music scene from A to Z, I have my Z in the Zutons but the A is proving difficult.  Not that it’s a problem to say from the Beatles to the Zutons but if anybody could enlighten me with a Liverpool band beginning with A, please do so.

We’ve had fantastic success at this festival before, in fact two years ago we took an, at the time, unknown band called the Wombats and they came back with a million pound contract from Warner Bros.  Not everybody will do that but I’m going to keep you up to date with progress and if we get any amazing news like that, you’ll be the first to know.

I’ll be posting regular updates - or find me on twitter at http://twitter.com/CliveUKTINW
