Well I never knew that!

halls-launch-at-japanese-embassyNot many Japanese consumers probably know that Halls, one of Cadbury’s famous brands, was first made in the UK in the 1930s.

The Hall brothers started the brand in Manchester and the “Halls” brand was launched in the Japanese market in 1980.   Since then, it has been very successful in Japan, enjoying number one or two market share in what is locally called the niche of “hard stick candy”.

This year Halls celebrates their 30th anniversary in this market and they are introducing new products and packaging in October.

Halls held a media launch event at the British Embassy in Tokyo on 13 September. UKTI Japan assisted with consultation on the format and invitations for the event.

A famous Japanese comedian, Mr Kendo Koba (pictured), who will feature in the new Halls TV commercial, was also present.

Cadbury Japan was very pleased to hold their launch event at the Embassy as it is a great place to remind people that Halls is a truly British brand!

Interesting read. Amazing to think how these big companies have already fully integrate themselves into other cultures and societies.
