Realism in snowy Davos 2010

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Investing in the UK

Davos is all they say. The best networking opportunity ever, but serious talk all the time on serious economic issues. There is still too much focus on financial services and not enough on business. It's global, but still Western, with some Asian and Middle East interest. And if last year was pessimism, and next year will be optimism, this year is realism. The theme for 2010 is how the world can get its financial regulation together, avoid protectionism and manage the shift to Asia.

Davos is international. The best thing is escaping the national perspective and talking to global leaders from everywhere. UK Trade & Investment is a brand which is now known globally. We are seen as an exemplar and well-positioned to help with an export-led recovery.

It’s also a media feast. Mervyn has wall-to-wall interviews. No event demands more stamina or more mental agility. More tomorrow.
