Business in the Year of the Sheep (or Goat or Ram)

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: China, Export

Chinese Lanterns 2Today sees the start of the Chinese Lunar New Year.

The confusion over this year's animal is based on the Chinese character (Yáng) for sheep, goat and ram being considered the same in China.

There are 12 creatures in the Chinese zodiac and 5 elements of earth, fire, wood, metal and water, giving a 60 year cycle. This is the year of the wood Sheep, the last one being in 1955.

The herd (or social) instincts in us are highlighted this year and the wood element gives us the flexibility to reach agreements.

Those born in the wood Sheep year favour careers relating to the arts, social sciences or group activities where generosity and helping others is paramount.

In business

This is a year for relationships in business to blossom.

It is the time to reconnect with past contacts or customers and to forge new alliances and build for the future.  Acquisitions and expansion plans and in-house bonding activities are all to be encouraged this year.

It is a year to take stock, plan for the future and take bold planning decisions.

The year of the Sheep is a good year to start a new business or to commence a totally new business venture.

It is probably the most placid of the Chinese lunar years as it is provides a chance for reflection, consolidation and forward planning.

On the world stage, instability is expected to continue as the year is not renowned for decisive action. However, this year will see us engaging in dispute resolution, seeking compromise and agreements to many of the world conflicts.

Whatever your business plans are for this year, I wish you happiness and prosperity.
