The UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) Japan team carried out research earlier this year to investigate the potential of Harris Tweed in the Japanese lifestyle and interiors market. The research was carried out through the UKTI OMIS service, a flexible service enabling businesses to use the expertise of UKTI teams around the globe to suit their needs.
The UKTI Japan team was asked by Harris Tweed to investigate potential buyers of their product for use in potential lifestyle and interiors products.
One of the companies approached as part of the research, Kawashima Selcon, decided to use Harris Tweed for their winter collection. As a results 2,000 pairs of Harris Tweed slippers/house shoes in 3 different colours will be available in Japan from December at a retail price of £30. The main sales channel is mail order, through leading companies such as Dinos.
The companies really appreciated our introduction and we hope that they enjoy good sales.
