UK's Bio Pharma Wave Hits Japanese Shores

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Japan, Life Sciences

japan_bio_2The UKTI Life Sciences Japan Team welcomed 21 Bio Pharma Trade Missioners last week, some of whom were in Japan for the first time, while others were here on a regular visit, proving that this really is a market which demands long term commitment.

The number of companies participating in the Bio Pharma Trade Mission reached a record high this year.  Japan welcomes these mission companies’ wide range of new and exciting technologies and services such as human tissue services, biotech and pharmaceutical market analysis service, contract manufacturing / research services, transdermal drug delivery system, clinical genetics and diagnostic technologies.  And the cold and wet weather which arrived at the same time did nothing to dampen the companies’ enthusiasm for doing business in the second largest pharmaceutical market in the world.

In order to introduce these state-of-the-art services and technologies to Japanese companies, the Life Sciences Japan Team held the UKTI Bio Pharma Trade Mission seminars and receptions at the British Embassy in Tokyo and the Hilton Hotel in Osaka with generous support from the Foundation for International Trade and Industrial Co-Operation, British Market Council and the Osaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

The seminars opened with a presentation from Mr Nigel Brooksby, former president of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) and a total of approximately 200 local companies who attended had the opportunity to learn about the overview of the UK Life Sciences Industry as well as the latest technologies and services.

The UK Mission companies had an extremely busy and productive week, speaking at the seminars, networking with local biotech/pharmaceutical companies at the receptions, having one-to-one business meetings with local companies and making individual company calls.

On behalf of the UKTI Life Sciences Team, I would like to thank all the mission companies, our supporters and local companies who attended the seminars and receptions for their kind cooperation to make the last week so precious and exciting.
