Globe-Trotter, the UK hand-made luxury luggage brand, recenty launched their new “Kyoto” collection to the press at the British Embassy. Mixing cultures, a geisha, specially invited from Kyoto, performed a dancing show during the British-style afternoon tea. Set in a British-style house on the Embassy’s compound, this was a very rare treat for the invited audience.
The “Kyoto” collection arises from a UK-Japan collaboration, between Globe-Trotter and Chiso.
Based in Kyoto, Chiso is a famous manufacturer of kimono, the Japanese traditional costume made from silk. The company is over 450 years old and is well known in Japan. Chiso participated in the Japan-British Exhibition in London in 1910 where they won a prize. After 100 years, they have reproduced a popular pattern at that time, in pink, and Globe-Trotter are using it as the lining for their white suitcases. This beautiful combination of pink and white is so “kawaii” (cute in Japanese)!
UKTI Japan have been working with Globe-Trotter on a range of projects and helped with the organisation and arrangements for this special launch.
